New California Cellphone Headset Law 07/01/08 RANT!!!

As most of you may/should know, as of 07/01/08 it will be illegal to drive and talk on your phone at the same time without the use of a headset (i.e. Bluetooth). I have used various bluetooth headset since the original one made by Ericsson this one…with this phone!

So I’m very experienced in bluetooth technology.

The reason I’m ranting is that I just had to teach my mother how to work bluetooth, I don’t think she gets it after 1 hour of instructions. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s department just issued a statement that majority of accidents are caused by individual talking on the phone or looking down to dial. My questions are:

1.) Why the hell is TEXT MESSAGING STILL LEGAL? how do you justify what you said about causes for accidents?

2.) Don’t you think requiring stubborn old people like my mother to learn this technology will create even more accidents because now they would have to look into their purse pull out the phone look at who’s calling (this is where they used to just pick up and talk)
, put the phone down, look for the peanut size headset, put it in their ear, push the button…..fumble with it some more because it didn’t seem to pair right away…just to look up and slam into a cop car! At this time, majority of the drivers are not smart enough to shut the hell up in a theater, what makes you think they can work bluetooth?

Stupid College Degrees? or just Lost Graduates – Craigslist

I was looking to see how the job market was doing by seeing what there were on Craigslist in terms of resumes, and job postings, I came upon this one that’s rather amusing:

I went to college with an idea of what I want to do, what I want to be, a sense of purpose if you will. While I was there I always wondered what everyone else really are doing going to classes like “Asian Studies” what are you going to do with that?!?! All I see is maybe becoming an Asian Studies Professor. I’m not really saying anything bad about the major (or any other majors) I just wonder how many college students have a clue what they are doing and how much their undergraduate studies will affect them. This person is a prime example.

History is a research intensive discipline, and consequently I have obtained unparalleled research skills (WHAT ORGANIZATION GAVE YOU THE HONOR/RIGHT TO SAY YOUR SKILLS ARE “UNPARALLELED”, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE?) which I am certain would be transferable to this line of work (YOU READ BOOKS & ARTICLES, EVERYONE ELSE DID TOO! Also, I have gained unmatched customer service skills from the 5+ years I have spent dealing with customers in the hospitality industry (THERE YOU GO WITH THE “UNMATCHED” CRAP, WHO GAVE YOU THAT RIGHT?!?! THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE AS AN ACTUAL PROFESSION, CAN YOU DO IT BETTER THAN THAT WITH YOUR “5+” YEARS EXPERIENCE?) . I am a very friendly and pleasant person to be around and I believe that these traits are important in a personal assistant (IN SOME INDUSTRY, THEY CHEW AND SPIT OUT “PLEASANT” PEOPLE LIKE YOU, JUST BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR THINGS NICELY DOESN’T MEAN YOU’LL GET RESULTS, WHAT ELSE DO YOU HAVE BESIDES YOUR SMILEY FACE? I WANT 4 HOOKERS FOR THE PRICE OF 1, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO? SMILE AT THE PIMP?!??!). I believe that all of the above noted skills are both transferable and relevant to a position as a personal assistant. (NO! WHAT WE’VE GOT HERE IS A PUSH-OVER WHO JUST DESCRIBED HIMSELF AS A PERFECT RECEPTIONIST)

Given the opportunity, I am confident that my experience and personal disposition would be a great asset to anyone seeking a personal assistant. No job is too great or too menial for me (YOU WON’T LAST A DAY AS A PERSONAL ASSISTANT (P.A.) TO SOME OF THE PEOPLE I KNOW, THEY TREAT THEIR P.A. LIKE CRAP, IT’S NOT JUST “CAN YOU PLEASE FILE THIS FOR ME”). I have my own car, and a valid CA drivers license (WOW! HERE’S A GOLD STAR) . After seeing a few replies it seems that I may have been a little blunt, mean and unfair in this post. But I have seen too many young talent go to waste in my life. Some of you may see this as going a little too far, some would laugh their butts off. IN THE END, THIS WAS A MESSAGE for you and a LESSON to be learned from me (what I see as just a normal guy). If you are NOT planning to go to college, work hard, work very hard, because experience and skills is what will bring you to the top. Your parents may think it was a bad decision not to continue education, but remember, when the kids your age gets out from college 4-6 years later, you have a lot more experience. If you ARE going to college, start getting experience in what your major is early, find an internship, get to know people within that industry because when you are done with school you are in competition with a lot of people who can do what you do and so much more.

PIMPS HAVE PERSONAL ASSISTANTS TOO, WE CALL THEM HOOKERS… AT THE VERY LEAST, YOU SHOULD HAVE DIRECTION OF WHAT YOU WANT TO BE OR DO. IF YOU ARE HAVE A DEGREE IN HISTORY, WORK WITH IT, USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, SEEK HISTORIANS, MUSEUM HEADS WHO NEED ASSISTANTS AND TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE PURSUING AN INTEREST, NOT JUST A JOB! EMPLOYERS LOVE EMPLOYEES WHO LOVE WHAT THEY DO, SHOW THEM YOU HAVE THE SAME INTEREST AND PASSION THEY DO (YOU PROVED THIS BY GETTING A DEGREE FROM A GOOD TIER 1 COLLEGE) AND THEY JUST MIGHT TAKE YOU UNDER THEIR WINGS. I MAY HAVE BEEN BLUNT AND RUDE ABOUT THIS. BUT I SERIOUSLY DON’T THINK YOU SHOULD SELL YOURSELF SHORT, WORK WITH WHAT YOU’VE WORKED HARD TO GET, DON’T SETTLE FOR A P.A. I love Yelp.com

I’ve been on this site on and off in the past year or so, but only recently joined and contributed my reviews of restaurants this past month.

In case you didn’t know, www.yelp.com is a community of foodies and outies? (people who go out to places) who provide their reviews and opinions of the places they’ve gone to.

After finding a bunch of great places to go to, I haven’t been to my “usual” hangout spots in a while, it’s great finding new things!

What’s with the weird heat wave?

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that there is this weekend only heat waves, it’s happen a few times already…the entire weekdays are mid 80’s, then weekends are 98-110, Monday come around and it’s 83, next weekend, 3 digits again!!! I’m getting very tired of this!

Dumb eBayers

I’m currently selling some things on eBay and am wondering why people are so dumb. Theoretically eBays should not be in business because if everyone just held out until the last second to put in the bid, you can get something for VERY cheap. I understand that these people want to be the winner, but I have 12 people “fighting” to win one of my items on the very first day…why would you do that? If you were smart, you watch a bunch of the same items and wait until the auction almost ends before putting in your bid, if you don’t win, go to the next one.

While I was on ebay I saw this guy’s auction selling his 1st generation 8gb Apple iPhone. He started the auction at $350, who would put in a bid for a 1st generation iPhone for that much to begin with when a brand new on is $199. you say it’s because it’s unlock? yes it is, and those are going for around $400. the problem here is that this guy mentions a few “problems” with the phone, there are a few DENTS and SCRATCHED, and there is an error that come up “once in a while”….oh and no refunds. Of course this auction ended with no bids….I wonder if he’s dumb enough to relist it EXACTLY the same.

The only reason the phone would have dents would be because it was dropped. I have an iPhone, it is protected with a “invisible shield” which I LOVE, and then a leather case is wrapped around that. I’ve never dropped it. I see these people out there with the iPhones unprotected, girls/women would finish talking and toss it into their purse along with the keys and whatnot. Guys would but in into their pockets with their keys and change. HELLO?!?! it’s a huge investment.

Maybe it’s just me being anal, but all my things (especially electronics) are very well protected and taken care of.

American Cars…Lacking

So since my girlfriend’s unfortunate hit & run incident a lot has happened, one of which is that her car is finally in the shop, and we are driving a rental to and from work.  Sadly we were unable to get a better car because the insurance people were not willing to accommodate…we are now in a Chevrolet Cobalt which is horrible!

It’s built like a toy car, the engine is loud, all the parts are loose, etc.

What I really want to rant about it their “radio console” they have about 8″ on the console for a screen for the radio. but they only use about 2 of them in the middle to show either the radio station playing OR the time, so all they can do it say something like 126.7 with a little am or pm or fm symbol. WTF? you have all that room to work with and this is all you can do for a 2008 vehicle?!?!?

What’s worst is that there is a little clock icon, I was on a radio station and wanted to know the time, so logically I pushed the clock button, what does that tell me?….NOTHING, it takes me to a blinking 12HR for time setting! I think that design is lacking logic, they put a button with an icon dedicated to changing the time as if it happens all the time. Even in my old 1992 Honda Accord, the setting is hidden under a tiny door. They have the time and money to create a button, draw and put in the extra circuits into the PCB board, but they weren’t about to fill that “screen” and just have the clock displaying all the time?!?!?!

as of 2008 American cars are still lacking logic, They are where imports were 15-20 years ago.

Ghetto Young Fathers

I was stuck in traffic going home from work yesterday and decided to take a picture of this car. Why you ask, not just because it’s Ghetto, but because it was a old  beat up  Honda Accord with  clear back lights, bubbling  tinted windows with a bumper sticker that said one of those, my child is a honor student at some school.

How embarrassed would you be if you parents drove this around??? Exactly!!! Parents are not supposed to drive a rice-rocket want-to-be!

Gay Marriage

I was getting ready for work this morning with the news on. One of the story was about the legalization of gay marriage in Southern California. I saw many gay couples gathering and preparing for their weddings. They they pan over to the protesters…a middle aged black women ( I no longer say African American, because I got into an argument over that before) was screaming into the reporter’s mic saying “It should not be legal, it’s not normal, it’s weird!”

I don’t know, I just feel that of all people, blacks would be the most UN-prejudice people given that they or their families have gone through so much in regards to discrimination that they know the feeling. How could this woman say it’s not normal and weird when Her grandmother was probably not allowed to vote or ride in a bus because it was illegal at the time?

I’m all for marriage, gay or not. It’s about the loving bond between two individuals. Now if it was a gay marriage to get a green card, that’s another story!

Work Restrooms

Remember a while back when I mentioned that the informal #1 rule in my company was “No newspaper in the restrooms”? Well, there’s been newspaper in the stalls almost daily, but last week was interesting enough for me to pull out my phone for a picture. There was a Reader’s Digest magazine (Large Print Edition) there.

The funniest thing is that the edition’s heading is “35 people who inspire us” so I ask you, who inspires you when you go for a #2 ?

I’m getting somewhat pissed of find these reading material in the restroom stalls!

Inconsidereate Fat Lards with babies

I’m getting very tired of inconsiderate fat lards that are repopulating this world. The are obviously assholes….why? you ask? because I was at the mall parking lot, in my car with signal on, waiting to the three “people” to leave, they each had a baby & baby stroller, this is a 2 door Silverado truck. Think about it……YES, congrats! three women and three babies DO NOT FIT in this vehicle. They had me waiting for about 15 – 20 minutes while they were loading everything…not once did they give me a look as an apology for the long wait.

you may ask why I didn’t just leave, I had nothing better to do and was not in any hurry….plus I wanted to see what these fat lard would do. People like this needs to stop having kids, they are just going to teach them to be the same.
