Weird Taste in Music

Posted by mikenopolis on February 24, 2008

I have an XM radio in my car and I’m usually tuned to the 20on20 station where the top 20 hits are played over and over and over again. I found two songs I really liked:

1.) Paramore – Misery Business

2.) Taylor Swift – Teardrops on my Guitar

I realized that my taste in music really changed in the last 4 years. I’m really into checking up on everything I come upon on Wikipedia, the band Paramore (Rock) and Taylor Swift (Country) are from Tennessee! It’s funny how many musical talents are from that state! I wish Rap and Hip-Hop will get better…when the song is actually a life story, what we have now are songs with made up words, a songs about how big their rims are or how nice their “chains” are, soooooo tired of this.

Accounting Class

Posted by mikenopolis on February 14, 2008

I’ve been taking an accounting class at a local community college for fun because I hate driving through traffic to get from work in Irvine to home is LA. Last night I took the second test, it had 50 multiple choice questions and 6 written “workout” calculations, journalizing problems. Majority of the class took more than the FULL time (2 hrs.) to finish the test. We started about 6:45pm which is already 15 minutes extra since the class begins at 7:00pm, at 8:50 we were told that he would be nice enough to let us have an extra 15 minutes, so the actual time allowed went from 2 hours to 2 hours & 30 minutes!!!

The reason I’m ranting is that there were A LOT more question and things to work out in this test than the last one…I think this professor should take a class in time management, either make the test easier or shorter, or allow more time to begin with, not make the students freak out watching the time go by!!!!

WooHoo Got a Raise

Posted by mikenopolis on February 6, 2008

So the COO came by my desk on the Monday after I sent out my question Friday (QUICK Response from the upper executive….I love that). He asked me to come by his office so we can discuss my question about a possible raise. After about 15 minutes of him reviewing my resume, my career plans and financial plans. Basically I told him the truth. I’m good at anything I do (around the office, not a doctor or an astro physisiststststs or anything…see I can’t even spell it) I’m very loyal to a company if they have good people (which they do). He told me he would get with the board of directors to see what kind of future they may have for me in the company.

He got back to me at 5:ooPM today and told me that everything went great with the board and he told me that my raise(a whopping 46%!) will start this coming Monday, and that I will get a review in 3 months or less. I love these people! It took my last job 60 days to give me my first raise after my boss had approved it because of all the “higher ups” who don’t know what I do needing to review and re-approve it. The corporate world is a love-hate relationship.

FYI: I’m obviously not stating exactly what I’m earning because it’s against company policy, but I’m very delighted that I can pay my mortgage, all my bills and still have plenty to play with.

Asking about a Review and Increase in Wage

Posted by mikenopolis on February 1, 2008

It’s been a little over two months since I started the new job. I’ve been doing great so far. It’s amazing how great the bosses think I am when I’m just going what I was hired to do, I haven’t done anything extraordinary. These are really nice people who work here, not like where I used to work were everything is a competition. I still have to get used to the slow/laid back work environment. I’m too used to working in a fast paced office where I have new deadlines everyday because my 200+emails tell me they want reports “ASAP”. Right now I’m getting averaging 0 emails a day, and I do what my boss tells me to do and pretty much have all the time I need to get it done.

….Since I did not know how the review and raises happen here, I shot an email to my immediate supervisor which was then forwarded to the Chief Operation Officer (COO) to see if there was the usual 3 month probation….hope it’s not like Hilton’s up to 4% after 12 months!
